Send forms for Editors Email from code

Hi guys,
I have a situation where I need to capture some details using Forms for Editors, access an external API to grab a value that will be saved on the same form, then trigger an email.
Is there any option to trigger the sending of the receipt email, from code? Maybe in the receipt template?
