Page shortcut show in new window or tab

Can you add the possibility to specify that a shortcut should be shown in a new window or tab?

As i understand this was part of dw in 2002 but has been removed.
It is quite logical for a user to specify a target for a page shortcut. It is not possible anymore unfortunately.

We do not need support for frames but the new window and tab target are appreciated. Thanks.

Yes it was. But it was a lot of problems, and now it would require a navigation template implementation to work, giving us a lot of support.

Furthermore it is considered bad usability in most cases. See this article point 2 from 1999.

Navigation and new windows are not a good thing seen with those eyes. It should be a link to a page that describes that you will now pop open a new window.

Of course this is very subjective, but still. Personally I do not like it - I prefer to decide myself to open new tabs and windows.

That taken into consideration, I do not think we will put it into the system.

With 8.3 you can create items and attach them as extended page properties. In this way you can make your own setting. These setting are not in the navigation XML though - but they will be.

Thanks for the quick response.

A custom implementation would suffice. Not a lot of customers are asking or need this.

As you said this would need custom settings in the navigation XML. Can you estimate which release of 8.3 gets this feauture and when?
