New search module?

Hi there

Is there a new search module in the making?

The options provided by the current search (not eCom search) is very limited.

For instance it would be nice to identify what is actually in the search result list. Is it an item? Which item is? Show images in the result list etc.

Rune

Hi Rune

Currently no new module is in the makes. But seeing what content types is in the search result is on the todo. No firm plans yet, though.

Hi Nicolai

Ok, thanks.

Can you use the brand new search functionality to index and display items, or is it eCom only?

Hi Rune

The brand new search can index everything. It has a SQL index builder where you can specify a SQL like select * from page inner join ItemTypeTable and get the items indexed and searchable using all the bells and whistles. It would work, but before it would be really good, you would need a "Page and content" provider that also knows how to handle items.

Hi again.

Cool, sounds like this is more or less the future of DW searching?

If so, it would be nice if the search in items, is activated with the click of button? Do I need to build my own provider in order to make it work for "normal searching"?

I mean, it could work (setup-wise) more or less like then current search module:

  • Search in (all, or specific) items
  • Search in eCom
  • Search in users
  • etc.

In that way, this search method would completely replace the old? For newer, item based solutions, that is.

It will probably be the future of all search.

In the future, you would not need your own provider - we would create one that will handle all the hard stuff.

So how the current search module looks, would be more or less how you setup a new one. Just running on a better index.
