Free shipping with gift card

How do I prevent that shipping fee is added when using gift card and the total order amount, before the gift card “discount”, is over the free shipping limit?

This is DW8 and that is not possible to get out of. It is a case that we have not thought of and the giftcard is not taken into consideration....
