Prepare database - activate button

In the "DW9 Upgrade check" in DW v8.8 there is an "Activate" button to prepare the database. But what is the purpose of this button in DW8.8? When upgrading to DW9 doesn't the upgrade proces upgrade the database anyway?

Hi Lars

It does some operations that is needed on the database first - i.e. converting all remaining ntext field to nvachar(max) since ntext is deprecated in the SQL versions DW9 runs on. DW9 will add any schema it needs, but changes like that have to be done before an update.

btw, it does not make changes that is not compatible with DW8

Hi Nicolai

As I understand you, one has to upgrade to DW 8.8 and hit the "Activate" button before upgrading to DW 9. Is that correct?

Yes, update to 8.8.1, hit the button and then upgrade.
