DW locally on Mac

Hi,

I'm trying to get DW running locally on my Mac. Unfortunately the documentation around here is mainly for Windows, so I need some help. Which programs do you recommend to work with to start?

  • Which IIS manager? This is installed by default on Windows.
  • What should I use instead of MS SQL Express?
  • For SSMS you recommend Azure Data Studio I have seen, correct?

Hi Caro,

Whether you can run Dynamicweb on a Mac depends on which version you want to run. Dynamicweb 9 is not supported on Mac as it required .NET Framework, which is only available for WIndows. DynamicWeb 10, however, is supported on Mac and Linux in addition to Windows.

You can find the documentation for DynamicWeb 10 by clicking on the link in the menu above this thread, or go directly to the article about Mac here: https://doc.dynamicweb.dev/documentation/fundamentals/setup/installation/install-using-mac.html.

I hope this helps. Otherwise, let me know.

Hi Jeppe,

Thank you for your answer.

I want to run Dynamicweb 9, so if I understand it correctly the only solution for this is to use a VM like VirtualBox?

Yes, that is correct. Either a virtual machine or Bootcamp (if that's available to you). Be aware that if you use a newer Mac, one with Apple Silicon (M1 or M2), virtualizing Windows is not as straightforward as you could hope. It's a lot easier on a Mac using an Intel processor.

Unfortunately, running DW9 on a Mac is not a supported scenario, so I cannot give you much help. My advice would be to either find a physical Windows PC somewhere on your LAN, or use a virtual machine. Locally, if possible, or in the cloud.
