I've experienced this too, and the pattern seems to be, when you first log on to admin, dw saves a cookie containing information whether you requested to save your information and auto login. It seems as this cookie is a bit too sticky, because if you don't choose to save first time, you're not able to overwrite these settings unless you delete the cookie. I haven't investigated this further, though, so it might be an other issue, but deleting the cookie and logging on again with save information and auto login appears to be working for me.
