We recently discovered that search containing Norwegian letters such as æ, ø and å is not working as expected in a dw 9.7.4, rapido 3.2 solution. Is there a setting we've missed or is this a bug?

Could you provide more information please...? What do you search, what do you expect and what is missing?
You can see that this site also provides search for danish letters: https://doc.dynamicweb.com/search?q=%C3%A6+%C3%B8+%C3%A5
That indicates that it is a configuration of some sorts.

I'm searching for "Slagbjørn" (a shoe name) or "gummistøvel". In the database, the ø is encoded like ø
How do I encode the url?
Hi Siv
That is another issue - it is because the encoded values from rich text editors ø are indexed as "ø". I'll have to look into if we can handle that html decoding when indexing the product catalog.

TFS#77032.
Made a quick test - and seems like it is possible to fix in a simple way. Will make the change and release with next 9.8 release.
Hi Siv
The problem regarding #77032 HTML decode values when indexing has now been resolved in hotfix 9.8.3
