It is possible to edit an item in the frontend.

Is it also possible to add an item in the frontend using item types?

Yes, you can, using the Item Publisher: http://manual.dynamicweb-cms.com/Dynamicweb-On-line-Manual/Items/Item-publisher.aspx

i read the page but i must be blind.

To be clear i want to Add a New item from the frontend.

Editing is clearly supported.

I haven't tried it but what happens when you link to the edit page without an edit ID in the query string?

Tried that already but it is a no go :(

i get a 404

There is no such possibilities currently. Though this is may be a good feature to implement, I think
