Dashboard statistics vs. Google Analytics statistics

In our dashboard in the CMS (via Home) we notice that the number in the widget “Visits in Total” does not correspond with the statistics from Google Analytics (it is not even close).
The widget says 526.337 visits in total while we see in Google Analytics about 12.000 sessions in total…

Hi Gerard,

The "Visits in Total" counter in Dynamicweb displays the total number of sessions (including bots) for all sites (including inactive/deleted) and since the beginning of time (when using the default settings). So this number is probably not that useful, but...

We are currently working on improvements and new features releated to analytics and reporting which is planned for release early next year. We will take a look at this "Visits in Total" widget as well. It might be improved or replaced by a new widget.

Note: The numbers will never match 100% since Google makes use of algorithms that are different from those we use in Dynamicweb. There are differences in what is considered a session/visit, what triggers a new session and so on. We will certainly make improvements, but at the same time we would like to keep things as simple as possible :)

Thanks for the feedback.

Best regards,
Morten

Hi Morten,

Thanks for your fast reply, it is clear for me. We are already talking to Nicolai about our ideas of improveming the dashboards and are looking forward to those releases.
Fully understand that numbers never match for 100% and that's no problem.

Best regards
Gerard

Hi,

Morten, will the new Analytics and Reporting have any kind integration to Google Analytics or will it be "DW only"?

Hi Aki

It will be DW only. It is not meant to compete with Google analytics, but meant to give easy access to visitor statistics, conversions etc. for those without ninja skills in GA.

Since DWs new tracking is able to detect conversions such as add to cart, place order, submit form etc. it might be possible to do server to server tracking in GA using a notification subscriber.

Thanks.

I'm asking because I'm thinking about creating some custom dashboard widgets with integration to GA.

Don't want to do it if there would be stuff like that in the pipeline. :)

There is no such plan.
