Best practice homepage URL structure

Hi all,

We’re looking for best practice advice on configuring the homepage in Dynamicweb. On several sites the first page in the tree still resolves to multiple URL's, such as:

  • /
  • /nl/
  • /nl/home

We want the homepage to be served only from /nl/ and without /home being generated or accessible.

What is the recommended setup in Dynamicweb to ensure a language area homepage only resolves to /nl/ and avoids duplicate homepage URL's?

BR,

John

When it comes to SEO and URLs thare are no best practice as everyone have diiferent opinions :-).

The root of a site (which is not the /home page) always has / or /language-code - e.g. /nl or /nl-nl - it will not have both. All pages in the tree all have a URL as well - e.g. /home - on website settings you can set that /home should redirect to / (or /nl or /nl-nl depending on your settings)

It works like this for a reason - e.g. if you change order of pages in the tree, if you deactivate /home then the /home-other will become default etc. etc.

You can fiddle with the settings and see the result using ?showurlindex=true on e.g. the frontpage.

If you have a setup with more websites and those websites have languages and you have different hostnames on either website or language level, things become more complicated. You can configure DW to either use a combined "UrlIndex" based on the websites - and hence by host.
