Subscribing to newsletter for existing users

Hi there,

Using Extranet (since we need double opt-in), how can I subscribe a user to a newsletter group  and ask for confirmation while maintaining the existing account? I tried a few options:

1. Use Create profile / Manage subscription
When I do that, the user details aren't available and tags like UserManagement:User.Email are empty. Also, the user is assigned to the selected group immediately. And it seems that fields like Name aren't updated.

2. Using Edit profile
I think I can make that work by displaying existing user data and letting them choose the Newsletter group. However, there's no option to send an email to confirm the sign up.

How do others do this? It seems like a common scenario.

You cannot, you have to do something custom if you mean a confirmation being an email?

Do I understand correct, that you already have a user that is logged in and has an email attached to them - and then when they signup for newsletter you need to send them a mail first to click accept?

And why may I ask? You can just ask them to confirm right there in the browser....?

It's for double opt-in. We have users with an account that ordered something in the past (or just created an account initially) and now would like to subscribe to the newsletter.

Doesn't "manage subscription" imply that it should work for existing users also?

Not with double opt-in as that just toggles the active flag.
