Rather than having a top level compare tool for the entire site and all content, having entries on the Ribbon bar to start the compare for the following sections would be great:
- Area:
This will start the compare dialog like under Settings | Developer | Deployment but with a filter on the Area ID. Subsequently, the option to select / see areas is not available.
- Page
This will start the compare dialog like under Settings | Developer | Deployment but with a filter on the Page ID. Subsequently, the options to select / see areas and pages are not available. It would be nice if the selectable / comparable item types are limited to the selected page, paragraph and associated content, but if that’s not feasible, leaving out the option to compare item types in this scenario would be fine.
For both a and b above to work there should be a way to select the appropriate data group. Not sure where that should go though. On the page / area? Or later in the deployment tool maybe?
Having these filters would make it much simpler and a lot faster for a content manager to select content and deploy it as you don't need to compare the entire site with all its pages, paragraphs, rows and more, but just a subsection of the content you're working on.
Imar
