Contact Lenses shop - what would be the best way to set up the different product attributes?

Hi

We are building a Contact Lenses webshop on the basis of Rapido. As you probably know,  Contact Lenses are a bit special, as they are usually sold in pairs (two packages) - and the have a lot of different attributes (Sphere, Cylinder, Axis, Base Curve, Diameter). What would be the best way to configure this for the products? Should I use Variants, or would that be way too cumbersome when there are this many combinations?

Any suggestions on how to solve this would be mutch appreciated 🙏 We want to make it easy for the editor to create and manage the products, as well as creating a solution that is intuitive for the End-Costumers.

Hi Hans

Hard to tell without more detailed information on their products and how they sell it.

My first thought is that there is inspiration to find in other lens shops. Locate the ones that your customer finds is a good reference for what they want to achieve, look at how their products are organized in the frontend, and create a structure that mimics that in Dynamicweb.

Hi Hans,

I worked on a similar project many years ago and from my experience it depends on how they bill it:

  • If you always buy a pair, then that's the Unit
That avoids issues with the 1 lens vs 1 pair and when people order 1 lens thinking it's 1 pair

  • For fields/values where the value is the same (i.e. Axis), then use custom orderline fields

  • For fields/values that have a price change, you could use variants

  • In the Template you'd need to ensure that variant options and fields (that would be submitted into custom orderline fields) look similar

I would recommend you keep the variants to a minimum, because you can generate a very large number of combinations very easilly.

Best Regards,
