RTL and Hebrew friendly links

Hi guys,

I have my fist situation of this kind. I am localizing a website to support Hebrew and RTL. RTL was easily solved with a Bootstrap fix but for Hebrew I have an issue with generating Friendly links.

I keep getting weird characters in the friendly links. Is this an expected behavior? Do I need to configure something specific on IIS to support the characters?

Should I avoid hebrew friendly links?

Thank you,

Adrian

Hi Adrian

Could you maybe be more specific in what you encounter...? And how your settings are for URLs?

When running non-latin charactersets in URLs, you should avoid the normalize latin characters checkbox.

Hi Nicolai,

Unchecking the "Normalize..." option did the trick.

I will have a mix of English,Spanish and Hebrew on this application. Do you think I might have issues with Spanish if I leave it unchecked?

Thank you,
Adrian

No, not at all. Google has been utf-8 compatible for 2500 years and never had issues with characters out the ascii space. Very old browsers had the issue though. And some SEO "experts" may have read something in 1999 they still consider valid knowledge :-).

Sorry cannot help myself.

Hi Nicolai,

I was not worried about the SEO experts (at least not yet). More worried that the URL's might not work.

But I agree Spanish characters are more mainsream than other characters and it should be fine.

Thank you,

Adrian

Yes, sorry! Just thought it was - it always is .-).

You are good with URLs. You need an at least 10 year old browser to run into problems with utf8 characters in the URLs, so I believe you are good.
