Published/Unpublished state for Ecom Product groups

It would be great to be able to toggle a published/unpublished state for a product group, just like you can for a normal page. The goal is to have greater control of the urls that loads ecommerce content (groups).

The current product group settings for show in sitemap, menu and clickable are fine to finetune the active product groups. But not for denying public access to a known product group url.

E.g. if you sell products, that are mainly available in a short period of time or only on a certain time of year, then that group of products should not be accessible the rest of the year.

I don't seem to find any option to "unpublish" a product group, while still keeping the product group incl. products in the product catalogue. Well, not other than A) deleting it, or B) renaming it, or C) creating a new "hidden"/unknown group an moving the products here. But that is just not very easy, intuitive or managable in the long run.

If the product group url is indexed in Google, it is possible to load the product group, with no products of course because you have deactivated the individual products. But the url is still accessible.

Unless I am missing some kind of setting/configuration? :-)

P.s. the need arose in regards to a Rapido project with Ecommerce navigation frontend.

Thank you in advance.

Yes, that could be a good feature - eventhough since group and product relations are many-to-many and can be part of searches etc. it is not that simple to handle. What if you have a product that is member of 2 groups, where one is not active. Or a group that has 2 different parents, one being inactive - could the products in that group be browsed.

As a work around, it would be simple to add a custom field as a group field, "Deactivate" as a checkbox - and in the template, if that is set, return a 404.
