Move from Ecommerce to PIM

Hi,

Considering customers who start working with PIM, but already had Ecommerce OR still create new products through the Product Catalogue, we cannot add them to PIM groups easilly.

It should be possible to add product to "PIM groups" from the Product Catalog, much like we "Publish to Ecom" from the PIM.

Hi Nuno,

When implementing a PIM solution to an already existing Ecommerce Customer, you deffently would like to start with Product informations there allready exist. But its maybe not a good idea just to replicate the "Ecommerce category structure" into a "PIM structure", because it may not meet the best/optimize way of working with Product enrichment in PIM.

I would therefore prefer, you make an analysis of your Product informations, make a PIM structure out of that, and then place/attach the Products into that PIM structure.

A way of doing that, is you make a new "Ecommerce Shop", and create the wanted PIM structure in there. Then search/find your Products, and attach/place them into the new wanted structure.

After all Products has been placed/attached into the Structure in the new "Ecommerce Shop", you "switch" that "Ecommerce Shop" into a "PIM Warehouse" instead. So open "Edit Shop", set the Checbox "Use as PIM Product Warehouse", and Save. Then the "Ecommerce Shop" are been transformed into a "PIM Warehouse", and you see it in the PIM area, with all the attached Products in the correct structure.

Subsequent, Products must always be created in PIM first, and from there linked to the Shops / Channels for which the Product is intended to be published in. And therefore we do not entend (for now) to make a permanet function, there can "Attach/Link Products" from "Ecommerce Shop" to "PIM Warehouse"

Hi Soren,

Thank you for your reply. We had talked on Monday (after I posted this thread).

I do agree and understand products should be created in PIM first. My question was more about existing projects that get "upgraded" to have PIM, and that's a change in how customers that are already used to working with Ecommerce and/or Integration, and the proper steps they need to take moving forward.

Not sure if it's worth it, but there could be an article in the documenation (How-Tos or PIM documentation) as to the Do's and Don'ts for current customers that move into PIM.
