As it is now (up until 9.4.1), the thing that decides if a file field in an item type is shown as a link to filemanager (yellow folder), or as a the file field with more features (Big square with plus for drag and drop - see attachment) - is if the base href of the file field is a folder inside Images folder or a folder inside FIles folder.
It would be more useful, if we as implementers can select what the apperance and functionality of the file field should be from time to time. I am also thinking about the flexibility this in cunjuntion of being able to select if files in folders should be force downloaded, or letting the setting of the browser decide.
All in all, more control over File fields, and if possible - also file beviours when linked to (on a folder level)
