URL-based coupon code

Hi there.

One of our customers asked for a feature called URL coupons where browsing to a specific URL (communicated in print or digital media for example) would grant you a specific discount and auto-populate the promo code field. Some of our competitors have this already:

https://woocommerce.com/products/url-coupons/

https://apps.shopify.com/autofill-discount-from-url

https://magento.stackexchange.com/questions/64012/is-there-a-way-to-pass-a-coupon-code-as-a-url-parameter

I did some further research and it seems that having a text box for a coupon code can actually be bad for conversion (as people tend to go to another website to find a reusable code but then don't come back), so having a URL based version seems like an excellent solution.

I guess we could build something custom that picks up the URL and stores it on the cart or keeps it around somewhere until a cart is created. However, I think it would be nice to have this in the core product for everyone to benefit from.

Thoughts?

Imar
