Updating website settings item, causes crash

Hi

We have tried multiple times, that when we update and save some harmless website settings like a text field, the site freezes. It's like it's trying to save the settings and gets stuck doing it.

Our thesis is that when DW locks the table while updating it, it never gets unlocked again, and the site crashes.

Like any good bug, this does not happen everytime - in fact it's a rare thing. However it happened twice today and we have experienced it before. As soon as you klik "save" the site freezes. Every time we have had to restart the server.

I know this is going to be hard to replicate, but im hoping that someone can see a logical reason for this happing or that someone has experienced the same.

Regards,
Rune

Which DW version? Can we have a copy of the item type definition?

Any custom at all with any notifications and especially items?

It's a version 8.8.1.2 - Custom

We have some custom stuff with notifications but that's related to eCom and Extranet. Nothing custom related to items.

Websitesettings xml file attached.

But I want to see ALL notification subscribers. Because items also talks to users and ecommerce, and website properties also triggers Ecommerce and User things. You have concluded it must be the item when saving the website properties - it could be so many other things not related to the item. It is simple as you say...

Well im not concluding it's the item. Im saying this is where we and the client have experienced it.

The item in question does not have any direct connections to eCom or Users that we have defined (no product picker or the like), but if you say all items talk to these other modules anyways, then of course we can't rule out, that the freeze is caused by something else.

We will mail you the notification subscribers - thats gonna be fun to look through... :-)

The item is attached to the website settings - and the website settings also controls a lot of things in Ecommerce and users, so you could experience the same issue without having the item attached to the website properties.

I got this response from support:

"Vi har en bug: 25842 som kan være relateret til dette. Det skyldes at area cache flushes ved gem. Det er rettet i version 8.8.1.17."

Roughly translated: We have a bug that could be related to this. Update your solution.

We have now updated the solution to 8.8.1.17 but unfortunatly experienced the crash again this morning, just as I was saving some updated website settings.

Does the event viewer on Windows say anything - can you find any .net exceptions in there that could lead us in the right direction?

No :-(

We didn't ger any error messages at all. Looking in the event view did not tell us anything either.

Sorry.

And does it only happens sometimes or everytime?

If you do not have anything in the eventviewer, you do not have a crash - no exception or no iis stopping/resetting... Or what does it mean when you say crash?

It only happens sometimes.

I'll try to get some more info from looking at server and log.

It looks like the only way to fix it after the "crash" is resetting the iis.
