URL settings to avoid multiple URL´s to same content

Hi

A costumer has a SEO company advicing them to reorganise url´s, so that different domains don´t have acces to the same content. In this specific case, the issue is caused by nordic charachters, so that both these domains have access to the same content.

http://www.domain.com/Familieforoegelse.aspx?ID=???

http://www.domain.com/Familieforøgelse.aspx?ID=???

Is there a way to avoid this from happening?

See attachment for the current Customized URL settings.

You cannot ensure that if you use that URL scheme. They have to switch to "Path" in order to use a more strict recognition. You say "domain2, but do you mean the entire URL (the yellow part is the domain)? (http://www.domain.com/Familieforoegelse.aspx?ID=???)

That said, your above example is not a problem for google. Google hired the 10.000 most clever guys in the world, and they do not index URLs but index content with a list of URLs for the piece of content. The only issue here is that Google might show the wrong one in search results. That can be fixed using the canonical field on the page.

So it is not a Duplicate Content issue: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66359?hl=en

If you mean domain and have 2 websites each with its own domain, you can use the "Primary domain" setting on the website settings to ensure that the right domain is used for the content.

Hi. No I don´t mean domain. I mean the things that is in the Querystring, after the domain.

When you say canonical, in order to get this to work - it is not enough to select the checkmark canonical in meta in the management center, but we also have to fill out the field on the page property? Checking the canonical in meta in management center, seems to set an automatic filling of canonical in meta, correct?

You just fill out the field on the page. That should be enough. The other checkbox will calculate for all pages and I think it only works for urls of type path.
