EcomProductCategory table is in an unknown state

Hi everyone,

Just got an application error while trying to install wrap application.

Full error text:

EcomProductCategory table is in an unknown state. Table contains 2 rows but should be empty. This problem can be solved by dropping the table and running the Conversion Tool again.

What I did so far:

DW (Custom) application: 8.7.2.0

Restored Wrap database

And added Wrap files. And here I got the error...

To make sure I did everything correct, instead of this application, restored Default empty data database, and added default files to the same files folders - worked like a charm.

Than tryed to install wrap application again, and got the same application error again.

Question 1) Any idea why I got this error?

Question 2) In the error text it says:

"This problem can be solved by dropping the table and running Conversion Tool again".

This sounds so weared, what is wrong if there are 2 rows in the EcomProductCategory - why that is bad? Can't you just show them or ignore?

Why should you ever need to drop the table, for system to reproduce it? And can someone please explain me what is this Conversion Tool???

/Dmitrij

Hi Dmitrij,

This is a very old thing. It related to the way product categories were stored previous to Dynamicweb 8.2. With 8.2, we changed the way product category data is stored, and we also introduced a conversion tool to move data from the old format to the new. This tool requires your data to be in the old format to work correctly, and your error message indicated that the conversion is in a unknown state somewhere between the old and the new. This is the reason it cannot automatically complete the conversion, and asks you to manually take action.

You can read more about this in this document: http://developer.dynamicweb.com/Admin/Public/DWSDownload.aspx?File=Files%2fFiler%2fDocumentation%2fReleases%2fDynamicweb+8.2%2fChanges+in+Dynamicweb+eCommerce+8.2+(Product+Categories).pdf

Hi Jeppe,

Thanks for the mail, will give it a shot right away.

And yes, this explains allot, and I remember there was a major shift especially in eCommerce couple of years ago.

So this makes sense now.

But we are also talking about Wrap database. And wrap solutionset. That should have pretty much nothing in common with "something old" right?

Funny thing is on a older version (8.7.0.8) I managed to install DW with wrap a bit earlyer - no problem at all. But this application 8.7.2.0 it gave me this error.
