RE: make it possibe to delete website AreaID=1

Hi, I was wondering why it is not possible to delete the website with AreaID=1. Please correct me if this possibility exist already.

Wouldn't it be possible just to check if there is 1 website on the solution (regardless of ID number), and then make sure you can't delete that last website? Why do we have to maintain that one website with ID=1?

Example:

E.g. on a solution with a live website (ID=1), the client wants a remake of the entire website. You could then make a new website (ID=2), create all the new pages, content and design here, so you can make a quick shift of domains to this new website (ID=2). But this leaves the old website (ID=1) on the solution, and there is no way to delete it.

I know it is possible to copy every page and content back to website ID=1, but then you have to go through every page/paragraph/item/module that has a reference, and if it is manually set then update the references, just to make sure that everything you set up on website ID=2 works again on on website ID=1. That is just a big waste of time, and I don't see why all that trouble should be necessary?

Hope you can release website AreaID=1 from its shackles :-)

Hi Jens Jakob

Yes, you are right. The reason for the limitation is that there was parts of the system that were hardcoded to fall back to website ID=1 in mis configuration scenarios. I actually think you can just delete it - as long as there are other sites, it should not be an issue.

Will take a look at this and see if it can be done also in the UI.

Hi Nicolai,

Thank you for the quick response. It makes sense to maintain a specific AreaID in terms of fallback references in the system.

But it would be really nice to see another solution implemented in DW for handling these fallback references. If it is not already possible in some way.

Thanks

Hi Nicolai,

The fallback could be the Area with the lowest sort value. Just my 2 cents.
