Shipping prices update in DW 8.5

Hi there,

We have a client that wants a webshop that can handle shipping of very(!!) differently sized goods.

I explained my needs to our PAM and he told me that it sounded like the requirements would be handled in the upcomming update of Dynamicweb 8.5 - but asked me to write my request here as well.

My client sells everything from light bulbs 5 x 5 x 10 cm to cast iron light poles 3,5 metres in height weighing 600kg.

The challenge is that some of the bigger things require different means of transportation.

Fx.
Pole A is shipped using trucking company A: X
Pole B is shipped using trucking company B: Y
The bulbs are shipped using the regular postal service: Z

This means that the final shipping price will be x + y + z

Therefore it would be super if (on some products) the shipping could be related to the product. In this case - the shipping of the bulbs would be calculated in the normal way.

Is this something that the update will be able to handle?

Hi Sonni,

As I also mentioned for your PAM we are looking into a new shipping matrix for 8.5 - we will sum up all requests and consider which to include during the next couple of weeks. I assume we would be able to solve your case in the solution, but I can't tell for sure.

Hi Sonni,

We have had a workshop on the new shipping functionality and decided not to implement the solution you have requested. The right solution for you won't be suited for the new matrix, as it should be implemented to automatically group product for different shipping companies and setup rules for which products can be shipped with the different companies. 

This request is estimated to 150 hours to implement in our core - with this estimate in mind we have made our decision. There might be a quick-fix custom way to gain your target, but that's out of our reach.

Hi again Asger,

Could you by any chance send a description of how the new shipping matrix for 8.5 is expected to work? How does it differ from the current shipping functionality? Do you have a white paper?

We have talked to our client about the shipping issues and the client is most anxious to hearing about the upcomming matrix.

I've only got our internal sprint items for our developers. But I guess the only thing you are looking for is this:

  • Delivery Address
    • ZIP
    • Country
    • Type (private / business)
  • Dimensions
    • Weight
    • Height
    • Length
    • Width
    • Volume
  • Order Price
  • User / User Groups / CustomerNumber

This is the columns of the matrix for now.
