How is it possible to have passwords encrypted after import of users with the user provider?

No, it is not. But makes good sense, so feature request (14840) has been created.

It hasn't been scheduled yet - but most probably 8.5. But the task doesn't seem very costful, so if the horizon seems a bit distant, let us know...

No it has not - but it will be out with next hotfix. The hotfix has an ETA somewhere along next week (23).
