Search weighted and multiple news detail links.

 

 

I would be good to have better control on search result items from modules where the detail link has to go.

For example with news we can configure 1 news detail link. This is not sufficient because some news categories are implemented on different pages or even sites.

 

 It could be a solution to configure a default detail link on the category. This way we can have different pages for each category.
These links should be used for the search result detail link.

 

 

A different solution is also good as long we can achieve this level of control.

This feature also affects other modules. For example: Ecommerce(groups on different pages) and Calendar(groups on different pages)

Hi,

 

I have a suggestion, but would require changing the way the search module works.

 

Instead of searching in the module tables, that would require Dynamicweb to index the rendered pages, similar to Google, so that the result would have the correct link the news/product/calendar is on.

 

This would also allow for multiple website support, since a news category can exist in multiple websites, so having a setting in the category would not help a lot, specially now with multiple categories. If a news existed in Category A and B, and the page listed only Category B, it could create some issues.

That is a good idea and would work for websites hosting only public content.

I like it and this would solve a lot of issues for current sites only hosting public content.

 

We would still need a solution for authorized users who have access to specific content(pages, modules and other items).

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your input - we do not work on the news module any more as we recommend you to use items. Items will solve above "problem" with it's filters which will be released in 8.4.1.
