Sort productlist by customfield in product catalog

I have a solution running on DW version 8.2.3.10

1. Is it possible to sort the products in the productlist by a customfield ?
- I have created a customfield "ProductCustomStartDate" Type: DateTime, that I would like to sort my product list by, any help on achieving this is much appreciated (even if I could use front-end sorting with razor ie. but backend(through setting) is preferrable).
Settings of the product catalog modules allows me to choose a sort by field (of the default fields) or a "user defined".
What does the "User Defined" -field option in the sort by dropdown mean?

I read a post that it should be possible to sort the product list in the cart module by a custom field in version 8.3.

In 8.3 you can choose all the custom fields from the list on the paragraph settings. That would be all product fields, not including product category fields (as they are different from product to product).

"User defined" Means the sort value - so if you have sorted your products in the product catalog, it will be that sort order that is used.

You've also added CalculatedFields. Is it possible to sort on these?

Hey Nicolai,

I know its a pretty old thread, but is it possible to sort on product category fields as well - or does it require some custom code in order to work?.

The DW version is 8.4 and as far as I can see it does not look like its supported out of the box in the ecom module :-)
