SQL related performance issue in intranet DW solution

Hello,

we've gotten reports from a client concerning performance issues on their intranet solution. It is running on DW 8.

The problem:

The solution has very long load times. Tests that ran on high speed DSL connections took up to 14 seconds before any content was displayed in the browser (see attachment for details / SQL queries). The high loading times is a result of there being a lot of different news categories, in a quite complex active directory system.

Users that are members in a lot of AD groups have very slow loading times compared to other users. This is somewhat expected behavior, but the loading time is more than doubled. See the attached file for detailed SQL queries (one regular user in 132 groups, and one test use in 1 group).

Could it be possible to increase the performance by not using free text search in the queries? Searching by IDs would most certainly be faster. Is DW aware of this performance issue, or is there something I can do from my end to fix it?

An alternative solution could be to load the page asynchronously, to first load the 'static' basic page, then initiate the news category queries. Is it possible to pull this off in DW?

Thanks in advance,

best regards,

Joakim Tønnesen

Hi Joakim,

Thank you for bringing this up. We are aware of the issue and we have added a number of changes to User Management that should resolve this in a number of cases. These changes are slated to be released with Dynamicweb 8.3 later this month (Tuesday, August 27).
