Copying pages to a language version [...has been disabled]

Our client is working on setting up a new language version on a multiple language site, and we have some questions regarding the functionality around multiple langauge support.

1) See attached screenshot. We get the "Copying pages to a langauge version have been disabled..." error when trying to copy a page from the English version to the Portuguese version. Is there a way to enable this functionality?

2) The little (i)-buttons that pop-up on paragraphs when they have been modified in another language version. Is there a way to also apply this change to the current version? We have global elements in which the content is the same both in the English and Portuguese versions of the site. It would save us a lot of time if modifications to these global elements only had to be done in one version.

Hope that was clear, thanks in advance!

best regards,

Joakim

When creating a new language version of a website you should go to Modules > Websites, select the primary language version and then click "New language". If you only create copies of pages then the pages will not be linked together as language versions of the same page.

Read more about Websites in the manual.

Now, back to your questions...

1) This error occurs because you are trying to create a new independent page (not linked to other languages) on one website by copying a page from another website. You can allow new independent pages on language versions by changing a setting in Management Center. Go to Management Center > Control Panel > Modules > Language Management. Make sure "Allow page operations" is checked. But usually you would create new pages on the primary/master language version and then edit on other language versions.

2) I'm not really sure about this, but you could try enabling the two settings for page and paragraph: "Copy master changes to language versions if values are the same". You find these settings in Management Center as described in 1) above. You should then be able to make changes on the primary/master language and have them automatically applied to other language versions if the previous value was the same across languages.

Hope this helps.
