PDF icon when linking to PDF-files

Other CMS systems like eZ and Joomla have a built in function that show a PDF-icon whenever you upload/link to a PDF file.

Is this a default feature in DW, and if yes, how can it be accomplished?

 

If no, I guess it is possible to create a add-on for it, or has anyone else customized it and can point me in the right direction where I can start doing this customization?

If you use the File Publishing module, it will add icons to your links.

But I think a better approach is to use CSS to style your links... http://pooliestudios.com/projects/iconize/
