Publish/Unpublish + Draft for Products and News

Hi,

Would be great if we could use settings like:

 - Publish/Unpublish

 - Draft

For:

 - News

 - Products

The idea is to be able to manage changes to news and products, get approval from client/supervisor, publish whenever ready.

Workflow module does not work for News and Products :(

Best Regards,

Nuno

Hi Nuno - thanks for you input.

The news module will be replaced in the next year or so by an implementation on our new item based structure where your suggestion is already implemented - so I won't put in new functionality in the module for now.

Regarding products it's very complex to implement a draft function - There's already a publish/Unpublish function here just called "Active".

 Hi Asger,

Great to know about the item based structure.

About the products, I wasn't very specific, sorry. I meant publish from and to dates. We actually custom developed it for a client, but it makes sense to be standard. That way a user can control the publication period of a product

Hi - It's true theres no publish from and to date directly on the product - and maybe there should be - but you can use campaigns to publish in periods. Will that work for you?

 Hi Asger,

Well, we developed the publication period because our client was unhappy about the campaigns. He is very used to working with publication periods on an "item" level (pages, paragraphs, news) and was very unsatisfied about campaigns.

I can go further. Our worst problem in these cases has been price/tax changes.

We have had to manually set product prices and reset taxes at midnight, because of this lack of feature (combining drafts and publishing period) :( This client obviouly does sync eCommerce with any ERP or database.

If there could be something to make this easier, would be nice

I too have a client who needs the publish/unpublish dates. Simpy put they want the product to turn inactive at/after a certain time.

For now its done with som if/else and display:none; But this gives issues with product count and paging...

Ok - it might be useful with a publish period directly on the product - I will try to fit this into our 8.3 release.
