How is Most popular and Others bought generated?

Hello,

In one of our customers webshop the Most popular and Others bought lists contains a lot of products that we did not expect. How are these lists generated - specifically what triggers that a product is "upped one" in popularity?

Most popular products

- Highest quantity in orders

- Sort by variant

- If needed, sort by language

Save by group-related in cache

People who bought this also bough

- Product with highest quantity from orders with the current product in it

- Sort by variant

- If needed, sort by language

Thats atleast what i could find :-)

Which means a small number of test orders or so with HUGE quanitties will screw it up...

Btw. it only looks through "completed" orders on the "alsobought"
