Managing sent e-mails

Hello there,

More and more, e-mail policies are being changed with mail server getting more restrictions to prevent spam emails, and blocking other e-mails along the way.

With this in mind I belive that some of Dynamicweb aspects could be improved, as allowing the use of an SMTP with authentication for example.

Another problem is the fact that Dynamicweb has to generate the newsletters on the same server as the website. This implies a series of configurations if we want another server to send the newsletters.

And finnaly the file type that the newsletters are created (.eml file). For what i have been able to research we are stuck to Microsft Mail Servers that from what i can realise are no more a "standard" feature in Windows Server 2008. If we where able to choose a different e-mail file type, our option would increase a lot.

With that saied i would like to know if you have any developments scheduled for these features.

Best Regards,
Diogo Brito

Hi Diogo,

Thanks for you post - were are releasing a new e-mail marketing module in our November release so I think your problems will be solved.

First of all our new module will send out e-mails through a provider - this means you can create your own provider for the exact smtp server you would like. We are planning to release with a standard provider for the services you know today and shortly after release a provider for another smtp relay server.

We will still generate the newsletters on the webserver as standard but in a whole new way so the performance will be much better.

Finally we will still deliver only .eml format - as this is the standard format .NET provides for e-mails.

Hope it will answer your questions.

Hi Diego

Great input - much appreciated.

With regards to .eml files it is true that they are Outlook file extension, but the content of the .eml file is pure text in RFC 822 standard format, så you can open and process them as a regular text file and mail.

And also you can of course install the SMTP service on Windows 2008.
