Browser optimering

God weekend herfra

Med venlig hilsen

Peter Assentorp

In English please!

We test on both IE 7,8,9 and latest version of Firefox. Firefox 7 is just arrived in beta less than a month ago, and final release 3 days ago. I'm using it already, other of my developers do the same to find potential issues. FF 5 + 6 + 7 are all less than 3 months old!

We optimize continuously for new browser versions. Please report anything - we will fix it.

DW 8 - Details are starting to follow the next month. Until then you can follow a bit on this new page:
http://developer.dynamicweb-cms.com/releases/dynamicweb-8.0.aspx

More info will follow on developer site, engage and in newsletters.

Have a nice weekend.

Hi Nicolai.

Sorry for not writing in english. It was copy/paste ;-)

I know that FF 5+6+7 are only less than 3 months old, but my real questions is, if there was gonna be support for all browsers? Not only FireFox and IE. What about Chrome and Safari? Chrome is used by more people in Denmark than FireFox. And Safari is the default browser for Mac users.

I would be happy to send you bugs and reports of my finding in Chrome and Safari.

Have a nice weekend.

Hi Peter

We currently support IE 7,8,9 and newest FF officially. We are using automatic UI test on our backend, but the tool we are using (MS Visual Studio Coded UI) have just added support for FF, and still does not provide for Chrome and Safari.

We just discussed Chrome and Safari this week - they are used by a lot, so we will probably incorporate official support sometime soon. But no real plans yet, DW8 is up first.

We try to make sure that all editorial things, like pages, paragraphs are also tested in Chrome and Safari. All new stuff (past 3 years) in DW should be browser compatible and most things work in Chrome/Safari as well - but there will be glitches.

We'll be happy to receive your list of Chrome/Safari findings. But do not put too much effort into it before you see DW 8 - a lot of changes have been made on the various places in the UI.

In that regard - we will start looking for beta testers next week for DW 8 - please consider enrolling in that so we can get your feedback on browser support.

Hi Nicolai

I already reportet this bug 2 days ago, but is so bad that I feel I have to bring it to your attention.

At the moment we cannot create or edit pages in FF 7.0.1 on my Mac. "Save", "save and close" and "cancel" buttons simple does'nt work. Thats a pretty bad bug in my opinion and i cannot see how such a bug can slip through if you test it.

Tried in Chrome also, just in case, but same thing (does'nt) happen.

About the different bugs in FF on mac.

Here's a few just off the top of my head - i understand this is not the way to report bugs, but here goes just tro let you know.

- When i copy page - the order of the sections is messed up.
- In the news module, if i try to change the date, the dropdown menu appears at the bottom og the page and con only be changed via the arrow keys.
- If i edit an image and choose "save and close", the new image does'nt appear until i leave the folder and open it again.
- if i right click on a page to see the options of "move", "copy" and so on, I have to hold down the right mousebutton to be able to see the options, then move down and quickly hit the left mousebutton.

Maybe you should have 1 of your employees work in FF on a Mac, caus' there is a lot of small things that you quickly find a workaround to, but does'nt really work optimally.

Hi Rune.

Thanks for the input. And yes - the bug is already on its way being fixed. It has bug number TFS7234.

As i mentioned earlier, FF7 was in beta for a very short time. But report things and we will fix them ASAP.

Will look into better testing on MAC.

"Save" and "Save and close" buttons on pagesettings doesn't work either...

"Save" and "Save and close" - buggen er stadig ikke fikset... Det betyder som sagt, at ingen Mac brugere kan oprette eller redigere sider.

Det er heller ikke muligt at skifte version i FF på Mac.

Are there any news about bug 7234 for this FireFox7 on Mac problem? The problem have been there for two weeks now and we are getting complaints from our customers about this.

Easy solving the problem on Mac:
Download an earlier version of FF.

And never upgrader automatically in the future.

Been there, tried it and cried.

Even if it did work, that would mean that I couldt'nt use the latest, safest and fastest browser because it doesn't work with DW...

Also, what about our costumers who uses Firefox? Should we send them an e-mail advising them not to upgrade their browser in the future?

There's only ony valid way here, and that is for DW to fix this issue fast and thoroughly test in FF/Mac in the future.

Hi all,
Dynamicweb 7

Not just MAC. I even installed a virtual PC and found even more problems! The newer template system on DW7 does not allow you to edit any content easily. You need both Internet explorer and Firefox to complete some standard changes.

Not much help but the issue has been since May 2011 but Dynamic-web refuses to believe it. You can not even use Internet explorer or any new version of Firefox on a PC. The editor does not work on Internet Explorer and the tabs do not work in Firefox. We are looking to tell the customer to downgrade but it is a central system and they will have to downgrade 2000 computers at the same time!  It seems a daily fight for the customer and a major lose of reputation for Dynamicweb.

Hi Andrew

I'll have the support contact you to find out what is going on.

The editor works fine on IE 7,8 & 9 and in Firefox. We are aware of the problem with the Ribbon tabs in FF7 and a service release is on the way. If you upgrade to FF8 Beta the ribbon tabs also works fine...

I can understand from the support team that you might have an editor CSS that causes the problem. I'm looking into the issue right now...

Hi Again.

The problem on your website is the Styles/Styles.css that includes some CSS that interferes with the editor.

I've uploaded an editor.css file to the /Files/Templates/Designs/GLOBAL_2011/ folder. Then that file is used instead of the Styles.css loaded from the layout template.

This fixes the problem.

Really weird...

See my screencast attached on an "old" Dynamicweb installation from June using Firefox 8.

The Bug TFS7234 is still present if you upgrade to FireFox8 Beta4 on a Mac.

Can you say anything about when the service release will be released?

Thats not running on Mac though, right?

You cannot change versions or type in hostHeaders either in FF 7.0.1

Hi Rune

No, not on MAC. But I found out it is only an issue on Page properties.

The problem was solved today and all 19.2.5.2 solutions have been upgraded with the fix. No need to do an update in Dynamicweb.

Will also be part of the 19.2.6.0 release due Monday.

There's another issue though. When I select a paragraph template, the template is set to "none". Only through Explorer can I select a template again.

EDIT: Just testet - The paragraph template is set to "none" as soon as I save the paragraph. Even if I dont touch the templates.

I think this was an issue before the Page Properties fix also.
