Automatic upgrade to News v2?

Reply

Hi,

I have a question regarding the following statements in the pre-release notes for Update Package 2008-001:

"The Dynamicweb News v2 module is at the moment only available for new Dynamicweb solutions. Existing Dynamicweb solutions will not automatically be upgraded with the new module version. Though with the introduction of the next Update Package for Dynamicweb, all solutions will be updated with the News v2 module. If you want to have the module installed prior to the next Update Package, you can contact your partner consultant for further information."

"Be aware that an update of the News module requires an extensive redesign

of all templates used in the module."

Does this apply only to solutions that are running News v2 BETA? Or will solutions running the first version of the News module also automatically be upgraded to News v2 with the next update package? If so, this could be a huge problem. Because, as I read it, it would require us (and all other partners) to redesign the templates for the News module on ALL the solutions we have developed. That is A LOT of work and I don't think the customers think it's fair that they should pay for a redesign of the templates because they are forced to upgrade.

But maybe this isn't the situation at all...?

Hi Steffen

This applies only to solutions that are running News v2 BETA... Which is only a handful and some demos.

All existing news modules will continue to work as usually. The news created there will be available in newsv2 when this is installed. Then they can be republished with the new news module with the new templates.

So no work is required.

Great. Then I don't have to worry :-)

Thank you for the quick response.
