Variantgrups and options vs productfield

Hi Forum,

We have more cases where a customer uses variantgroups and options for their product structure (product variants).

The varaint group e.g. color is in more cases necessary also as a product field. As the product field is to be used in excel export and import and also in datasheets.

But this gives us redundancy - this data e.g. color has to be maintained in two places.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to solve this? E.g. how to make the variantgroups and options available for export and import?

As I understand it it is possible to get variantoptions and -groups out in feeds - correct?

Hi Helene,

 

I wonder if you wouldn't even use this to your advantage. You can use the product custom field as the basic color (i.e. Red, Blue, Green) and the Variant option as the proper shade (i.e. Royal Blue, Dark blue)

Thank you for the idea, but in this case the customer want the two to have the same data....
