Feature Request - Copy data between fields

Hi,

 

While working with the PIM, I noticed some customers to be somewhat concerned about either the field name (not the label) or the field type, because they can't change it moving forward.

 

That got me thinking if we could have a way to copy values from field A into field B; then we could delete field A. That would take the pressure of some situations.

 

The reasons could be multiple: typos in systemname, field needs to be "moved" to another category, product field becomes category field (or vice versa). Obviously we can do that in SQL, but the goal is to do it fromt he UI.

What is the status on this one? We also need this. Have a lot of fields created as integers, now they need to bed decimal. How do we change that without losing the values?

Have you revisited this feature request?

 

I can tell you it's becoming a bigger wish. The reason is because we have projects (old and new) and most of them would have integration coming from the ERP or something from the past. The problem is that none of them are a "green-field" (in other words, starting fresh) project where we can build the data model ahead of importing data.

 

If we could have the fields and then copy values from field A to B, then we would be in a much better place (either working with it, or teaching ours customers) to refactor/move to a better data model (and then obviously would update the Field Display Groups accordingly).

Customer is asking for this again, but I'll let them know you didn't think it was important enough :)

The customer has migrated to DW PIM from another major PIM platform (standing applause) and now they have a big need to move data around, clean up and restructure a lot of data. Moving data from one field to another is indispensable for this.
