Manage variants

Hi guys,

I am using DW10 for the first time and I find it hard to get used to the new structure of the interface, so please bear with me.

I am trying to set up a product with variants, nothing fancy. However, I cannot find any way of turning variant combinations into products (I have separate, product numbers, descriptions, and assets for each Variant). I could assign assets to variants but it seems that's pretty much all I could do.

I have also noticed the absence of "create" folders while browsing for assets. This was annoying in DW9 but it may have been solved at some point (I may remember it wrong).

The DW10 documentation does not say much about setting up Variants: https://doc.dynamicweb.dev/manual/dynamicweb10/products/managing-products/index.html?tabs=variants.

I have also noticed that the "Media with Thumbnails" paragraph lacks any way of sliding through thumbnails. Is this something I am missing or it was by design (of course, this is a Swift related issue).

Thank you,
Adrian

Hi Adrian

Turning variants into products happen automatically - DW10 does not support "simple" variants like DW9

We are aware the flow of creating variants starting with the variant groups is not optimal and we are currently working on UX reqork to make it more intutitive.

So here are the explanation:

First you have to add variant groups to the product:

Once you have create those, you can create the actual variants - the variant combinations:

When you click "Save combinations" the variant products are also created.

Can you elaborate on "Media with Thumbnails" ? I do not quite understand that question.

Hi Nicolai,

Thank you for the details.

I got as far as defining the combinations but after defining the combinations I could not find any way to adjust ProductNumbers or other details of the Variants.

As for Media with Thumbnails, I am talking about the "Gallery" column:

And this result:

I would expect that the thumbnails will turn into a vertical slider but instead, they take all the space needed to be listed completely.
Maybe I am missing something.

In the backend, on the product, I see the thumbnails like this:

I hope this makes sense.

Thank you,

Adrian

Hi Nicolai,

I am still struggling with managing stock information and other properties on Variants in DW10.

Here are my steps:

This is all I get:
Pretty frustrating :(

Thank you,
Adrian

What are your field settings for those fields? Do they vary by variant or do they not vary by variant?

Also not the new setting "Show field on both MASTER and VARIANTS"

Hi Nicolai,

I have eventually figured it out after playing around with the options.

I see that DW10 does not handle by default the standard fields as editable on Variants.
I have set them to be editab;le on Variant level and they are now showing up.
While we are on this topic, maybe you can clarify what "Show field on both MASTER and VARIANTS" option is for.

Thank you,

Adrian

Hi Adrian,

The new option "Show field on both MASTER and VARIANTS", are made so users can decide which attributes they want to show or be able to acces on both MASTER and VARIANTS.

In DW9 it was hard-coded which fields there was available on both MASTER and VARIANTS, like "ProductNumber", "ProductName", "ProductPrice", etc. ..

But in DW10 this it's a setting on the attribute, there are underlying the Enrichment setting "Editable on ..."

So that mean, you on an attribute can decide, there set to "Editable on product variants", it also must be available to access on MASTER level..

It can be very useful on Website, where you want to have common LongDescription on MASTER, and the same time have individual LongDescription on each VARIANT.

As you see, ProductName are forsed to have access to both MASTER and VARIANTS, othervise you could not sæt the name both places..

Hope that clarify what this option can be used for.
