Add category field options from the product edit screen

Hi,

I have a request from our client to be able to add new options to a category field (list) without going into the system settings. What is the best way for me to be able to modify the select input field to create an "add option" button? Is this even possible for me to do, or perhaps this needs to be a feature request?

Regards,

Jon.

Hi Jon

That is not possible as it is now - usually the list of options is controlled 'hard' by a PIM or category manager so the list does not get filled with undesired data.

If PIM editors should add things them selves, text field is the only option.

Technically editors are providers - but changing the editprovider or hooking into an existing editor is not currently a concept.

What you can do is creating a custom action for the product edit screen and add some logic to edit the options for fields there - not exactly what you need, but the best option.

Hi guys,
I have received this requirement quite a few times before, and I was hoping that DW10 would change this behavior.
I have managed a lot of products though the interface myself and it's always frustrating to have to quit what you were doing just to go and add a new option. In some cases it's hard to make a list of all options needed before starting the editing, especially if you don't yet have the details centralised.
Adding new Manufacturers, new variant options, and new options in a select/checkbox list/radio list are usual activities when products are managed through the interface.
I am 100% sold on the idea of avoiding filling in additional data blindly, as I have seen a lot of junk data, but an option to limit this "editing" to specific users (like Admins or Administrators) would make sense.
It is indeed a very complex scenario involving a lot of in-depth changes, but I would be happy to see it at least considered for future versions.
Thank you,

Adrian
