How do versions and rings work together in Dynamicweb?

Hi,

I have a question about how versions and rings are related in Dynamicweb:

  1. Are versions tied to rings? For example, if you’re on Ring 2 with version X and you’re updated to version Y, does that mean you also change rings, or do you stay within the same ring?

  2. Let’s say you’re on Ring 2 with version X and are manually upgraded/downgraded to version Y (due to certain bugs in the environment). When all rings are updated later on, will your environment be included in the automatic ring update, or will it remain on the manually set version?

Thanks in advance for the clarification!

Hi Ferri

The release concept is epxlained here: https://doc.dynamicweb.dev/documentation/fundamentals/dw10release/releasepolicy.html and you can see the actual updates of the rings on this page: https://doc.dynamicweb.dev/documentation/fundamentals/dw10release/releasenotes/changelog.html

So if you are on a R2, it will be the same minor version (e.g. 10.16.*) for a month. If that ring receives a bugfix, you are automatically updated to the latest hotfix version of 10.16, but you are still on R2. One the month has passed, 10.17.* will become the new R2 and you are automatically updated to 10.17 and will still be on R2.

Hope this clarifies.

BR Nicolai
