Assets of type Links_only

Hi guys,

I have the task of handling a Link-only type of asset for products.
I see that I can create an Asset category and set the option to "LinkSelector" but I would expect to be able to add a Label for each link. Instead, I can only add a link, and the system decides that the last URL parameter from my link would become the label.
For example, for this link value: https://doc.dynamicweb.com/forum/dynamicweb-10?PID=1605&CMD=createPost the label would be dynamicweb-10
Can you take into consideration extending this Link property with a label?

Thank you,
Adrian

Hi guys,

Any news regarding this request?

In my case, I need to add links to documentation sections, and it should be a combination of label and link. It does not seem like an unusual situation for a link based asset category.

Thank you,

Adrian

I would like to add another request/question to this topic.
In the interface for Field Display Groups, we get an option to include ProdctImages in a FieldDisplayGroup but no way of including non-image assets.
I see that the index automatically created lists for each Asset category:

But they are not available in the FieldDisplayGroup options:

Is there any way I can include asset lists/options in the configuration of the FieldDisplayGroups?

Thank you,
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

On Product assets, you are able to define alternative Name and Keywords, there are available in Channel/Shop.. these fields are also available on LINK's

In Swift it's displayed as a Tooltip on the asset.

Is that what you are looking for ?

Hi Soren,

I am sorry, but that's not what I am trying to explain.
Maybe the confusion comes from the usage of the term "Assets". I am not talking about product assets but rather about the Assets section

If you go to a Product category and try to use the Export (or import) option, you get this screen:

Clicking on the Select File or Browse will open up an asset dialog without any option to create a folder:

The option to create a new folder as you browse and/or upload a new file instead of being forced to choose ONLY from the existing files, seems a reasonable expectation.
I hope this clarifies the issue.
Thank you,
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

Well, that confused mee .. I thourth you was talking about LINK's and Label's

What you show now, is our Import screen, where you have following possibilities ..

  • You can chose/search an existing Import-file from Assets area
  • You can upload a new file to folder "Uploads" in the Assets area

From that window, the user can't create a new Folder.. That has to be done within the Assets area, and user needs minimum "Create" permissions

Hi Soren,
Exactly. Having to switch to a different section to create an upload folder does not make much sense to me.
If you had a specific reason behind this limitation, it would be good to be aware of it.

Thank you,
Adrian

Hi Soren,

I believe that I am the cause for confusion :)

I have 2 separate threads onepend. one for Asset links and another one for File browser.
You have replied first to my Links question, I am sorry about the confusion.
Getting back to the Link assets, I am afraid I cannot find the setting you have mentioned. And you are right, I am looking for a way to be able to add a Label to a link.

Thank you,
Adrian
