Config of visible fields on a product

Since "Field display groups" no longer are available on a product, how do we manage what fields should be visible on a product?

Product lists have 'Select view', but seems not to be posible once a product is open.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi Michael

It is now a generic concept for all edit screens in Dynamicweb and not just product edit.

You can set it up under settings

https://doc.dynamicweb.dev/manual/dynamicweb10/settings/system/administration/configurescreens.html

In the very latest and greatest dw10 you can also name tabs and editor groups and make more or less what setup you want.

I am aware there is still som UX that is not in order, but it works.

Hello Nicolai,

- I have already been looking at the Configure Screens, but it's a overwhelming list of 'Model type name' to choose from!

I have created a configure screen with the Dynamicweb.Products.UI.Models.ProductDataModel which can be used on product lists, but it's not possible to choose on a opened product. I might be using the wrong 'Model type name', because it's not possible to choose a 'view' on a opened product.

I'm using DW10.11.1

Hi Michael

I think that action menu you have there is on the "Product overview" - and not product edit.

On product edit you can "Manage fields" and save a view.

In settings you can do "Screen layouts" that will use the fields defined in a view to be organized into the desired tabs and editor groups:

Thanks for detailed feedback Nicolai, but I'm not 100% satisfied how it has been implemented.

Usecase is users with different roles like PIM editors and PIM readers and these users will have multiple views (eg. Specifications, Marketing, etc.) to choose between.

As PIM editor looking for information about a certain product, you won't 'edit' the product from the product list, just to be able to 'Select view'. These users will search for at product, click on the product in the search result and then based on what informations they are looking for choose as view. This isn't possible today, but okay they have to click 'edit' on the product, but why isn't 'Edit' available on the 'Actions' button?

As PIM reader looking for information about a certain product, it's not possible to 'edit' the product, so how would you be able to choose another view?

Why don't I have screen layouts on my DW10.11.1 solution?

Hi Michael

Thank you for the detailed feedback - so you are looking for configuring or using screen presets for overview screens as well?

The Screen layouts are behind a feature flag - some new early adopters features are available from feature management where you can activate it:

Hello Nicolai, I have now enabled the 'customized screen layouts' in Feature Management part of the Administration and can now configure a "ProductEditScreen" with tabs and fields. However, this dosn't help me much, because it seems I only can have one active "ProductEditScreen" at time?

Furthermore, I still have the problem, that PIM readers can't edit the product and thereby can't choose different views.

Hi Michael

You can have only one layout - where the fields are on edit screen. 2 different users cannot have the product name filed on 2 different tabs as that would be confusing.

So you have 2 concepts

  • Field configurations - which fields are available - this is the views you had on DW9. You can have many of these and you can add them to workflows
  • Layout configuration - where on edit screen are the fields. You can have one of these and it will be used for all products.

I'll ask Søren to reach out to you so you can take a session on this.
