Hi,

What's the difference between product category fields and product properties (described here). I don't understand the use or advantage - as it is also described to have an impact on performance?

Kind regards

Davy

Hi Davy,

The main difference between "Category fields" and "Property fields" are as following ..

"Category fields"

- This is where you define attributes there are related to specific type of products (Product category) or a "Component description"

- Attributes are typically grouped together, and are inherited to products if they are related to these defined Group(s)

- All attributes in a Group, will be available on assigned products

"Property fields"

- This is defined attributes, there individual can be assigned to products as they are needed

- Only attributes, there are chosen on a product, will be available

I hope above information helps you

Hi Søren

So a 'property field' is like a product field: it can be applied everywhere. But it won't show, unless specifically selected?

Can you give an example when we should use it over the other options?

To end, how 'dangerous' is it in terms of performance impact?

Hi Davy,

Yes .. "Property fields" can be applied to a product everywhere, and would work like Product customer field.

Useful to describe Certifications, extended Dimensions, etc.

I would not be afriad for performance, but of course it's depending on how many Properties there are assigned to product .. to your information, technically then work property-fields in the same way as category-fields.
