Updating DW9 to DW10

Hi

This has probably been asked and answered before, but I can´t find it.

We are delivering a new solution for a client. It is a pure CMS solution - 3 websites (maybe 1 or 2 language versions for one of the websites).

I was thinking to implement it in DW10, but was told to wait - as DW10 is still quite buggy?

We ususally implement the solutions in none viewmodel razor templates. Maybe we run a few API calls, but that is minimal.

So my question is. if we build the solutions in DW9 now, with a plan to upgrade to Dynamicweb10 in a few months - will the templates work in Dynamicweb10?

What are the obstacles we can run in to when updating a DW9 solution to DW10, and does it require some special preperation or activities?

/Hans

Hi Hans
For CMS solution you should go for DW10.
You can read more about the timeline we currently concetrate around here: https://doc.dynamicweb.dev/documentation/fundamentals/dw10release/release.html
Be aware, we are currently working on getting a Swift specific for DW10 out, but for now have a look here on how to convert the templates to be used with DW10.

Hi

Thank you Lars

I forgot to mention that In this specific case, we need the items based data that is in a DW9 solution. All the implementation would be from scratch

Would it be safe to copy the DW9 solution, update it to DW10 - and implement new templates from there?

/Hans

Yes - it is safe to upgrade a DW9 to DW10.

Please read all of this page: https://doc.dynamicweb.dev/documentation/fundamentals/dw10release/upgradingfromDW9.html

It contains all the information you need - i.e. database changes like this one: https://doc.dynamicweb.dev/documentation/fundamentals/dw10release/upgradingfromDW9.html#users-and-groups
