Connecting DW9 and DW10 to the same database

Hi,

I have a site that is now running on DW9, and there is 1 PIM user regularly working on the Product Catalog.

Would it work to run the site on 1 central database, and connect both a DW9 and DW10 instance to that database. That way my thought would be the PIM user would still be able to use things like multi- and bulk- edit, while I could already start taking advantage of .NET 7 for the frontend application and CMS admin features.

Cheers!

Justin

Yes, you can do that.

Basically you just set up 2 sites using the same /Files - then the settings in that folder will be picked up connecting to the same database.

Only difference soon will be that settings related to field inheritance, variant inheritance and language inheritance will move from config file in DW9 to Database setting in DW10

I want to point out that changes you make in one instance is not nescesarily available in the other instance right away because of caching is not shared. So restarting a site or resetting the cache might be needed. Changes to .config will be picked up both places right away though.
