Product Import not working as expected

Hi,

I have run into several issues around product imports to a group.  This behavior was verified in a 9.10.16 version site.

Import to a group does not actually import to a group

  • Export a product as an Excel that is Dynamicweb structured
  • Create a new group in your PIM warehouse for testing
  • select the new group and click "Import products"
  • Go through the import process until the import is completed.
  • Result: No products are added to the new group

The documentation says (italics are mine):

  • Upload the file to your solution (for it to be found easier later, upload it to the Files folder)
  • Open the warehouse group you want to import products to

The expectation is that products will be added to the group during import but that does not happen.

No visual feedback during import of Dynamicweb structured Excel file

When you get to this screen during the import of a Dynamicweb structured file:

there is no indication that clicking the "NEXT" button will start the import.  There is also no visual indication that anything is happening after clicking the "NEXT" button.  If the Excel file has several hundred lines, it can take several minutes to complete the import during which the screen seems to be doing nothing.

I just tested importing with an unstructured Excel file and found that importing to a group does work for that file type so this issue seems to be isolated to importing a Dynamicweb structured Excel file

Hi Brian,

Export as "Excel Dynamicweb structured" are mainly implemented to cover translations and off-line enrichment. This is why all "None editiable" fields is protjected.

Therefor import from "Excel Dynamicweb structured" is fully controled by these ID's, and will only update these Products, whereever they are placed in Groups etc..

So you need to use "Excel unstructured", if you want to alocate a Group.

Hi Søren,

That makes sense to me but it is not explicit in the documentation and the UI reinforces the idea by only allowing import at the group level.  It would be nice to add that to the documentation as it is not easily discoverable.  Also, regarding the lack of visual feedback during import: is that something that should be logged as a feature request?

Thanks for your help!

Brian

I've tried to clarify the documentation a bit re. which export format to use for which purposes. Hope that helps people in the future.
