Manual image upload to master product - can not be set as default without inheritance to variants?

Hi Forum,

Does anyone know if it is possible to manually upload an image to a master product, and then set this image as the default only on the master?

On this screencast https://www.screencast.com/t/PPsu6lPva you can see what happens if default is set, then the image is inherited to all variants also - which is not what the customer wish.

If the default box is not set, the image is just put as one of many images on the master, not as the front/default image of the master - but that is what our customer wish. The image pattern default image is then taken in this case, but in some cases the parent does not have an image via image pattern and this is when the manual upload would be useful.

Hi Helene,

In that setup/work, you MIX two ways of set the Default/Primary-Image on Product

This because, the manuel set "Primary Image" and it's inheriting rules, will override your ImagePattern setup. So it work as expected and designed.

So in your case, you need to decide, if "Primary Images" should work with ImagePattern or Manuel attachment ..

If you go' for ImagePattern, then remember you can use multiple Parameters in the ImagePattern string, and that could maybe help in your case

So it os not possible to upload an image manually to a parent product and set is a default image on the parent without it being default on all the children as well?

Ot at least not wihtout using asset categorires and then changing the inheritance rules...?
