Add new field from Import

Hi,

This may be a very extreme wish, but there's some value from the customer's point of view.

When importing from Excel in the Activity Mapping it would be nice to be able to select "New field". In my mind, a new icon (similar to the constants) would allow some quick options

We could give them the option to choose it as a Product Field vs picking an existing Product Category, because the field type and settings are the same. We could even provide a simplified list of options just to tackle the import, and then the user could could to Settings > Ecommerce > Advanced > Fields and determined additional settings

Hi again,

Coming back to this, let me tell you the use case. I have a customer that came with an excel file (but out have been in another format), with +150 columns. I know we'll have to do those 150 mappings, but I was hoping to have a better way to handle how/when those fields are created.

Unless there's a better way to do this, I have to either

  • Manually create the 150 fields one by one

    OR

  • Create a separate import for the field definitions (which requires a few table mappings)
Run that job to ensure all of the destination fields exist

In either case it takes additional work and being able to do it in the same job (or have an easier way to handle new fields) would save a lot of time and headaches. This may save a few hours per project for an experienced developer knowing his way around Dynamicweb, but becomes a bigger issue with customers using the PIM, forcing them to do this in a very specific order.

I have a similar situation waiting for me around the corner.

One of our prospects-soon-to-be-customer wants to implement the ETIM data structure for products. And that's about +2000 fields to be defined and grouped into product categories or field display groups.

With an increased focus on PIM implementations, I would see this scenario coming back pretty often.
