How to download zip file from a menu item

Hi
I want to make one of my menu items download a zip file. But in which files directory do I put the zip file and how do I set it up so the menu item doesnt load a page?

Upload your zip file to /Files/Filer somewhere (or a subfolder), right click the navigation item, choose properties, Advanced tab, shortcut button. Click the folder icon and link to your zip-file.

must have made some stupid mistake because I tried almost the same
